Course: Ever since the recent financial crisis, securitized products have been covered mostly in a negative light due to law suits against Standard and Poor's, Citibank, JP Morgan and Morgan Stanley. Yet, these products are increasing in volumes and liquidity as housing macro factors improve.

This one-day course will incorporate live, interactive lecture, case studies, exercise, and relevant articles for discussion to illustrate the mechanics, advantages, and risks of Mortgage Backed Securities (MBSs).

After this course, participants will be able to:

  • Define asset backed securities
  • Describe role of MBSs in the global economy residential mortgage-backed securities (RMBS)
  • Identify mechanics and players in a typical and commercial mortgage-backed securities (CMBS) structure
  • Compare and contrast advantages and risks of MBSs
  • Analyze key financial regulations impacting the MBS sector
  • Discuss current issuance and trading outlook for MBSs
