Course: This half-day program begins with a fundamental concept of time value of money and overviews key financial statement measures and explores absolute valuation. (This is built on the timeless value investing philosophy and techniques David Dodd and Benjamin Graham, the masters of value investing.) This fundamental approach is complemented with the brief application of technical analysis, option valuation and the role of acquisitions. The course structure includes a blend of lecture, discussion and in-class exercises.

After the course you will be able to:

  • Understand and calculate time value of money
  • Determine corporate cost of capital
  • Understand the role of Beta in valuation
  • Calculate and apply the dividend discount model
  • Apply the model to no-growth, growth and multistage growth companies
  • Understand and calculate free cash flow to the firm
  • Calculate weighted average cost of capital
  • Apply the discount model to the entire firm
  • Recognize option and technical valuations
Class Size: Registration is limited to approximately 15 participants to promote student participation and interaction.

Who Should Attend: Market participants who want to understand the analytical process from an Absolute, or Graham-Dodd perspective. This approach is frequently used by “value” portfolio managers and corporate finance professionals and complements ratio and relative value analysis.

Level: Intermediate. Course assumes basic knowledge of equity terms and definitions.
